Imam Shirazi World Foundation Calls for Eradication of Poverty

Imam Shirazi World Foundation published a statement, calling for joint efforts to combat poverty all around the world on October 17th, coinciding with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty:

“In a world characterized by an unprecedented level of economic development, technological means and financial resources, it is a moral outrage that millions of persons are living in extreme poverty. Poverty is not solely an economic issue, but rather a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses a lack of both income and the basic capabilities to live in dignity.

The unfair distribution of wealth, administrative corruption, and ineffective investment of capital and energy have led to the increase of poverty in the Middle East, Africa and some Asian countries. Violence, hatred, discriminatory behaviors, civil conflicts and forced immigration are among the most evident indicators of an impoverished society.

Developed and wealthy countries have a responsibility to fight poverty on all fronts and assist poor nations to recover from this disease. Coinciding with the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Imam Shirazi World Foundation calls on the world leaders to study the illuminating and instructive life of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) who managed to eradicate poverty in what was the largest empire of that time, in almost 1400 years ago. In spite of the restrictions of an underdeveloped and tribal society, Imam Ali was successful to defeat poverty in his vast country.”
