Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Sends Condolences over Martyrdom of Shia Pilgrims

The Office of Grand Shia Jurist Ayatollah Shirazi published a statement to offer its condolences over the martyrdom of some Iraqi Shia pilgrims, who were on their way to the shrine of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her) in Damascus. This is the statement:

In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Indeed, we are from God and to Him, we shall return.

God Almighty has said: “Whosoever emigrates in the way of Allah shall find in the land numerous refuges and abundance. Whosoever leaves his house an immigrant to Allah and His Messenger and then death overtakes him, his wage shall have fallen upon Allah. Allah is the Forgiver, the Most Merciful.”

The tragic martyrdom of some believers who had set off on a journey to visit the shrine of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her) has struck us with sorrow and grief. Therefore, we offer our condolences over this incident to the holy savior, Imam Al-Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), the proud nation of Iraq and the entire Muslim Ummah. We also pray for the salvation of these martyrs and ask of God to grant patience and great rewards to the ones surviving this incident.”

It is worth noting that during a pilgrimage trip to the shrine of Lady Zainab (peace be upon her) in Damascus, 32 Iraqi Shia pilgrims were martyred and 77 others were injured in a car crash.
