Iraqi Shias Rally in Iraqi-Saudi Borders to Protest Demolition of Baqi

The Iraqi Shia Muslims commemorated the World Day of Baqi, calling for the restoration of the shrines in the sacred and historical cemetery in holy Medina. Each year, the Public Relations Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi in holy Karbala organizes a large rally in the Iraqi-Saudi borderlines to condemn the demolition of Baqi Shrines at the hands of the Wahhabi rulers of Saudi Arabia. The statement published by this rally hold the Saudi government accountable for the desecration of the shrines in Baqi Cemetery, and calls on the Saudi authorities to restore these shrines. Furthermore, this statement requests the international community and the world heritage sites to push the case for the reconstruction of Baqi cemetery. Over the past years, the Grand Shia Jurist Ayatollah Shirazi named the 8th of Shawwal, the anniversary of the demolition of Baqi shrines, the World Day of Baqi Cemetery.
