In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Eminent Grand Islamic Authority and Jurist Ayatollah Sayyid Sadiq al-Shirazi expressed his deep sorrows for the losses from the terrible disaster in southern Asia. He stated:
These disasters are an opportunity for mankind to turn to and supplicate to his God. In the Hadith of Imam al-Redha, peace be upon him, “Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, loves for his people to obey God so that He will have mercy on them and dismiss the scourge on them, as He did to Younis’s tribe when they supplicated to the Almighty God.”
His Eminence considered: That the vast statistics from the natural disaster can be decreased with the use of “monitoring” and “prevention”, which are available in some countries. Allah the Almighty says, “Whatever evil, misfortune, befalls you is from yourself.”
His Eminence called on all Muslims to cooperate and participate in lessening the humanitarian suffering for the displaced and affected by the incident – with various ways to contribute – For if you show mercy to those on the earth, Allah will have mercy on you.
“Surely we belong to Allah and to Him shall we return.”
