Shia Islam Recognized Official at Kuwait’s Parliament

Due to efforts by the Shia Kuwaiti parliamentarians, especially Mr. Saleh Ashour, who is an advocate and follower of the Grand Shia Jurist Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq Shirazi, the Shia school of Islam was recognized official in Kuwait.

Mr. Khalil Ibrahim Saleh, one of the advocates of this bill in the parliament explained:

“The recognition of Shia Islam by the Kuwaiti parliament was resumed after a break in 2016 and we finally managed to reach an agreement and resolve our difference of opinion.”

He then added:

“The bill of recognition of Shia Islam was firstly vetted by a special commission, and then, it was put to vote. Eventually, this bill was approved by 521 votes in support of it.”

It is worth noting that Mr. Saleh Ashura was one of the key figures at the parliament to raise this bill once again. The Shia constitute 35 percent of Kuwait’s population.
