In the Occasion of the Commemoration of Ashura Day of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him,

1428 A.H.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, peace be upon the greatest creation, Muhammad and his holy household, and may Allah condemn their enemies until the Day of Judgment.

Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, traced to all mankind throughout history, a line of virtue and supreme ideals in belief and behavior in his great revivalism. In his will, which he wrote for his brother Ibn al-Hanafiyah, he said “I didn’t go out to battle wanting fame nor control; I went out to reform my grandfather’s nation.”

The attempt of human reformation is the wide line that was drawn by Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, in Ashura, with his sayings, actions, soul, blood, pure body, his family’s blood and everything he owned.

This sincere and awakening revivalism is what placed the nation and history on the clear and right path. It was brought by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and Banu Umayyah wanted to erase it. So, a government disguising Islam, led by Banu Umayyah and Banu Marwan, was initiated and it resulted in its power slowly declining.

History tells us – among the dozens and dozens of examples – that one of Banu Ummayah’s grandchildren, Saad bin Abdul Malik bin Abdul Aziz bin Marwan was whimpering in tears like women, when he was asked why he answered “How do I not cry and I’m from a family that is cursed in the Qur’an.”

So Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, is the only Imam that was chosen by Allah to radically reform. He revealed the veil from what was hidden and exposed those who disguised Islam and spoke badly in its name with his worthy sayings and biography.

If not for the revivalism of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, how would Yazid and all his predecessors and successors, who mislead and deceived the caliphate of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, be exposed?

If not for the revivalism of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, how would al-Hajjaj, who tortured and murdered tens of thousands of innocent people, be exposed?

If not for the revivalism of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, how would the real face of Salah el-Din al-Ayoubi, who surrounded Shiites in their towns, then murders and burns all their corpses, be exposed?

If not for the blessed revivalism, who would’ve exposed Bani Marwan, Bani al-Abbas and al-Othmanian, who were raised on Islamic thrones in the name of Islam, and practiced horrifying abuses and oppressions against isolated innocent civilians?

In this era – the era of knowledge and freedom – who else then Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, his holy land and day, exposes a corrupt tyrant like Saddam Hussein, who displaced, tortured and killed millions of oppressed Iraqi people, while owning Iraq’s wealth and using it to ignite wars?

The revivalism of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, will forever stay a great light shining the right path – not only for Muslims – but for all mankind to distinguish between the true and false Islam.

From this, we find oppressors – through history and since Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, was martyred up until today – confronting Imam Hussein’s rituals and mourning councils. They try with all their energy to blur his trails and everything that links with him such as destroying a holy city once a while, killing innocent men, women and children while they’re performing rituals, and spreading the culture of Muawiyah and Yazid as well as disrespecting the culture and rituals of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him.

However, Allah promised Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, through Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, that all that’s being done to distort his image, will never affect his revivalism, rituals and culture, but will forever stay.

Iraq’s tyrant – in our time – how many did he kill and imprison to prevent visitors of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, from walking on their feet? Today, however, the world witnesses convoys of visitors walking in the Millions’ Visits several times a year, from men, women, children and seniors, tens and hundreds of kilometers, in the hot and cold weather, in the rain and under the sun, in daytime and nighttime, to obtain the deed of performing Hajj for every step taken towards the shrine.

I ask Allah, with the blessing of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, to hasten the end of oppression towards the visitors of Imam Hussein, peace be upon him, worldwide, especially, in Iraq. I also ask Allah to hasten the reappearance of the awaited, Imam Mahdi, peace be upon him and may Allah hasten his reappearance.

Muharram 2, 1428 A.H.
