Grand Ayatollah Shirazi Public Relations Office Organizes Rally in Front of the Saudi Embassy in Baghdad Iraq

Thousands of Iraqi protestors rallied in front of the Saudi embassy in Baghdad to protest the demolition of the Baqi shrines by the Wahhabis, on Friday, 8th of Shawwal, the anniversary of the demolition of the shrines of holy AhlulBayt (Blessings of God be upon them) in holy Medina back in 1926.

This rally was organized by the Public Relations Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi in holy Karbala, in which the protestors held up placards and banners condemning the desecration of the shrines of the holy AhlulBayt (Blessings of God be upon them). These protestors further published a statement, calling for immediate reconstruction of these shrines by the Saudi authorities.

Each year, the Public Relations Office of Grand Ayatollah Shirazi organizes a similar rally at the borderlines of Iraq and Saudi Arabia to commemorate the anniversary of this incident. This year, however, the Grand Jurist’s Office decided to have this rally in front of the Saudi embassy in Baghdad.

Baqi shrines are the resting place of some Shia Imams and they are one of the most sacred places in the holy city of Medina.

These shrines were demolished two times in 1806 and 1926 by the Saudi government, which is supported by Wahhabi ideologies.
