The 60th Death Anniversary of Mirza Mahdi Shirazi

28th of Shaban 1440 AH, May 4, 2019, coincides with the 60th passing anniversary of the late Grand Jurist Ayatollah Sayed Mahdi Shirazi, a renowned Shia religious authority and the father of the current Grand Jurist Ayatollah Sayed Sadiq Shirazi.

Born in 1304 AH in holy Karbala, Sayed Mahdi Shirazi engaged in Islamic studies at an early age and was taught under his knowledgeable brother, Sayed Abdullah. He then continued his pursuit of the knowledge of AhlulBayt in the cities of Samarra, Kadhimiya, and holy Najaf.

In his journey to learn, Sayed Mahdi Shirazi sought the tutorship of many great scholars, including Sayed Mohammad Taqi Shirazi, Mirza Ali Shirazi, Haji Ridha Hamedani, Mohamad Kadhim Tabatabaei, Akhund Khorasani, and so on and so forth.

After years of extensive and in-depth studies, Ayatollah Sayed Mahdi Shirazi became notable among the scholarly spheres as the next leading marja after Ayatollah Boroujerdi; however, death parted between him and the Shia Muslim community on 28th of Shaban 1380 AH, almost 45 days before the passing of the late Great Marja Ayatollah Boroujerdi.
